Notre-Dame la Grande
A masterpiece of Poitevin Romanesque art, Notre-Dame la Grande raises its sculpted facade at the centre of Poitiers. Its carefully carved figures narrate the Bible like a stone comic strip. Each summer, a projection show restores the original colours onto its facade after nightfall. Meeting there on a show evening remains one of the finest ideas to begin with.
Saint-Jean Baptistery and palace
The oldest Christian monument in France, the Saint-Jean Baptistery dates from the 4th century. You step down a few steps to cross the ages. A short walk away, the Palace of the Counts of Poitou, former residence of the Dukes of Aquitaine, houses its hall and monumental fireplace. A cultural date that leaves a lasting impression, especially when shared.
Blossac Park and banks of the Clain
South of the plateau, Blossac Park and its French-style avenues offer a welcome breath. Below, the Clain winds peacefully between the old bridges. On Lyad, Poitiers members share their Romanesque churches and favourite cafés; it is up to you to find someone to trace your own path with.
